Figuring out the business stories which resonate with your specific ideal clients can drive you to distraction some days!

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

I’ve identified 8 key storytelling elements which heart-fuelled business owners can use to make the process much easier – elements which help you forge stronger, deeper and more magnetic connections.

When you include these 8 elements in your writing and communications, your words will resonate with your audience more often and help you build the vital relationships which propel your business.

Separating out what I was doing – things that are second nature to me as a writer – I combined them with everything I’ve learned since starting my first business in 2003. Then it was a case of revising and reducing to the key messages, asking myself “What’s in it for them – what’s in it for my audience and their dream clients?

 

It came down to, as it often does, aligning our core values.

I wanted to produce a subscriber gift that was:

 Value-packed with writing tips but not another boring writing guide.

And would help my audience community:

Have more impact through deeper, more magnetic connections with their right people

Discover how to strengthen their writing and stand out from the competition

Find ways to generate new/more content with ease

And was designed:

Using an expansive framework, not a magic formula

Flowing from my metaphor “Your business is a river, from source to sea

Why mermaids?

It all started with a writing guide I was creating. While talking about captivating and validating your ideal client with eight key storytelling elements, I imagined a gang of cowgirls or Amazonian warriors – feisty, fascinating and memorable – and, at first, I called them The Tasty Eight to remind us to use {some of} our five senses to bring them to life.

But then, for the first time in years, I began sketching. Not idle doodling, but serious sketching.

The final artwork was {see below} worth the wait!

It was thrilling to take pencil and pen to paper again, after all, I am an art college grad. The writing came first, but the art fuelled the words and vice versa, creating 8 goddess Sirens to awaken your muse, each one representing a crucial storytelling element for compelling and unique business stories.

 

What is a “business story”?

All of your content – blog posts, lead magnets, web copy, About pages, services pages, {e}books, emails, video scripts, autoresponder sequences, sales copy… you name it!
